ʻĀINA In Schools Off to a Great Start!
Posted On: Sep 04, 12
'ĀINA In Schools is off to a great start! We welcome three new schools to the 'ĀINA IS Ohana: Kahala, Liholiho and Mililani Uka, and we are looking forwarding to partnering with their 'ĀINA Teams to connect students to where their food comes from!
August was a month of 'ĀINA Garden Parties where community, families and teachers prepared their school gardens for garden lessons and built new garden beds and sheds. Liholiho Elementary has a new garden bed for every grade at the school! Sunset Beach Elementary and Wai'alae Public Charter schools are storing their garden supplies in their brand new garden sheds built by volunteers.
Mahalo to the volunteer groups who came out to support 'ĀINA Schools with their garden parties: Bank Of Hawai'i, UH American Marketing Association Cub, 53rd Signal Battalion, Hands in Helping Out (HIHO), Rutgers Club of Hawai'i, the Pearl Harbor Navy Chief Petty Officers Group, Chefs Hawai'i and the Waikiki Food Farm.
'ĀINA In Schools Docents have been trained to teach the 'ĀINA In Schools garden and nutrition lessons featuring the new 'ĀINA Food Guide. This school year we will also be piloting grade 3 Compost Curriculum and grade 4 Hawaiian Garden Curriculum. A special thank you to our 'ĀINA In Schools lesson supply prepping crew who worked tirelessly to prepare the 'ĀINA Lesson Bins for schools!
