The Hawaiʻi Environmental Education Alliance (HEEA) hosted the first ever Environmental Education Symposium in conjunction with the 20th Annual Hawaiʻi Conservation Conference on July 30th. Over 130 educators convened at the Hawaiʻi Convention Center for a day of professional development and capacity building. In the Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation sponsored room, Green Service Learning in Schools and the Community, educators learned how to enhance classroom learning by involving service learning and critical thinking. A team from the Oʻahu Army Natural Resources Program shared strategies for incorporating field science on school campuses. Other breakout rooms featured Teaching Future Farmers, Greening Our Schools, Kai Connections and Green Jobs in Hawaiʻi. Participants were able to build partnerships and friendships as they learned how we can all work to support environmentally literate schools and communities.
