Summer Garden Trainings for Educators & Adults

Looking to gain gardening skills in order to start or strengthen a school garden project? Presented by Hoa’Aina O Makaha and the Kokua Hawai’i Foundation, this informative and experiential workshop for educators and volunteers will take place on Saturday July 21 from 9:00am to 12:00pm (with lunch from 12:00pm to 1:00pm) at Hoa’Aina O Makaha, a 5-acre educational farm located next to Makaha Elementary School. Topics will cover the basics of school gardening, including maintaining healthy soil, composting, garden types (including container gardens and aquaponics overview), plant selection, garden creature identification, and more. This two-week, 72 hour PDC curriculum, held July 30 to August 12, is a training program for farmers, homeowners, renters, accountants, landscapers, architects, builders, developers, civic planners, educators, environmentalists, students…anyone interested in meeting human needs by turning our communities into fully functioning ecosystems.
