Mahalo to our partner chefs for sharing their passion for cooking healthy with locally sourced ingredients during the month of April with ʻĀINA Chef Visits! These talented chefs provided students the experience of seeing ingredients locally sourced and often times from their very own school garden turned into a healthy snack or meal. Our ‘ĀINA Chef partners shared an abundance of creativity and flavors that were a hit with the students!

Lāʻie Elementary: Chef Amelia Delgadillo, Fit4You, made Chicken Quesadillas with veggies, and Coconut Chia Seed Pudding with Fresh Berries at Lāʻie Elementary’s ʻĀINA Family Night

Kaʻōhao (formerly Lanikai) Public Charter School: Chef Kai, Kaiulani Spices, made Pasta with Local Tomatoes and Kai’s Special Spices with Gr. 2 & 3.

Sunset Beach Elementary: Chef Susan Prior, Country Crate, shared the table with Kindergarteners and First Graders making ‘Uala Hummus with fresh Veggies and Fresh Garden Pesto Bites. And provided Sunset Families an opportunity to make their own ‘Uala Hummus in parent child teams at their ‘ĀINA Family Night.

Waikīkī Elementary: Chef Natalie of Mahina and Suns, made Macaroni and Trees from scratch with fifth graders. The students gobbled up the broccoli “trees”!

Waialua Elementary: Chef Kathy Maddux, Mohala Farms, made homemade buttermilk pancakes and discussed the importance of eating breakfast everyday with the students in grade 3.

Additionally, Lāʻie Elementary and Waiʻalae PCS students participated in Kuʻi ʻAi Demonstrations and were treated with the fresh flavorful result of their hard work of pounding fresh kalo to make paʻi ʻai. Later this month, Chef Sean Congdon, Private Chef, will make Fresh Local Kale Salad with Ginger Miso Vinaigrette with grade K at Mililani Uka Elementary and grade 6 at Ahuimanu Elementary.
