May 29, 2020

Blanche Pope Elementary teacher Lily Utaʻi has maintained her focus on aloha ʻāina through the sudden shift to distance learning. Earlier this year a group of seven students shared stories and photographs of the variety of ways they mālama ʻāina together as the Blanche Pope ʻĀina Warriors at the We Grow Hawaiʻi Youth Conference. They regularly cleaned and outplanted natives at Muliwai ʻōlena, the stream closest to their school. They also surveyed fish populations in Muliwai ʻŌlena and compared them to data they collected on a field trip to Pālolo stream. To see how these projects continue and gain some crafty inspiration for native plant inspired artwork, lei making, virtual field trips, and tutorials on home-made static aquaponics, check out Blanche Pope School Gardens on Instagram and Facebook.
