3Rs School Recycling Program
March 01, 2019
February was a great month for schools making strides toward reducing their campus waste and rescuing more resources from school classrooms. Daniel K. Inouye 5th graders are ramping up their recycling and sorting through recycling bins every Friday in Recycling Club. Fern Elementary hosted KHF 3Rs School Recycling Program Coordinator, Jennifer Milholen, to speak with over 300 students on waste reduction and classroom recycling best practices.
Waikīkī Elementary is gearing up to conduct a full campus waste audit in late March. Results will help the school target the most common types of trash with reduction strategies. If your school is interested in conducting a campus or a cafeteria waste audit, contact [email protected].
February’s Aloha ʻĀina Recycling Drives were a huge success! Salt Lake Elementary (first time host) and Keoneʻula Elementary both had very busy events, collecting over 15,000 pounds of rescued materials for donation, reuse and recycling.
Get ready for our March Aloha ‘Āina Recycling Drives at Kalāheo High School and Nānākuli High and Intermediate School (first time AARD host!)
