3R’s School Recycling Program

A special shout out this month goes to Kamalani Academy for not only hosting 3Rs and Plastic Free Hawaiʻi presentations for the entire school of over 500 students, and distributing recycling bins, but also completing a campus waste audit all in the same week. This data, collected by some awesome student volunteers, will help Kamalani achieve their goal of making the zero waste campus a reality!

 

Aloha ʻĀina Recycling Drives were held on two Saturdays this September. University Lab School and Kaʻaʻawa Elementary both hosted AARDs which serve as fundraisers for their schools. The events were both successful in recycling a total of 8,000 pounds of scrap metal, electronics, batteries, household items, and used cooking oil for reuse and recycling - a great alternative to adding these items to Oʻahu’s waste stream.
