41st Annual North Shore Menehune Surf Contest Goes Plastic Free
October 27, 2017
Now in its 41st year, the North Shore Menehune Surf Contest has been working towards being a plastic free event for a few years. This year, all lunches to contestants were served in Worldcentric compostable clamshells with compostable forks. Banzai Bowls also offered acai bowls in compostable ware. The Plastic Free Hawaiʻi Water Refill Station also allowed the event to eliminate most single-use plastic water bottles! Plastic Free Hawaiʻi also offered an upcycling activity where keiki turned t-shirt scraps into headbands, bracelets, anklets, and hair ties!
