ʻĀINA In Schools Program Updates
November 02, 2021
On October 23rd educators from participating ʻĀINA Schools joined us at the Kōkua Learning Farm for a full day of training on the ʻĀINA In Schools curriculum, kilo, and compost and gardening practices. It was a day of learning, reflecting, and planning for the rest of the school year. Mahalo to those educators who showed up and shared their manaʻo! Mahalo also to Gordoʻs Mexican Food in Waialua for providing such ʻono burritos for our lunch!
The KHF Team joined Hauʻula Elementary for their Fall Break ʻĀINA Garden Party! School community members showed up with tools and a willingness to work. Together we installed four new garden beds and repaired four existing beds. It was wonderful to see the garden coming back to life and to meet these passionate teachers, administrators, students, and community members at Hauʻula!
ʻĀINA Lessons are also underway at other participating schools! Photos above from left to right: (1) Students collecting data as they observe their growing sunflowers in the Little Seeds, Big Plants Garden, (2) Student enjoying plant parts in a Birds Nest Salad during Nutrition Lessons, (3) Students tending to their kalo & ʻuala in the Hawaiian Garden, and (4) Corn growing in a Three Sisters Garden. We love seeing ʻĀINA Lessons in action!
