Aloha ʻĀina Recycling Drives & 3R’s School Recycling
September 02, 2020
Many have asked if our school recycling drives are cancelled for this school year. Well, good news! Aloha ʻĀina Recycling Drives have approval from the City & County of Honolulu to continue operating. In fact, we had our first Aloha ʻĀina Recycling Drive of the school year on August 22nd at Sunset Beach Elementary School, with appropriate distancing and masks, and it was a great success! Mahalo to Sunset Beach Elementary for hosting and our recycling partners for continuing to support the event! We collected over 4,000 lbs of resources for reuse and recycling.
Our next Aloha ʻĀina Recycling Drive will be Saturday September 19th at Kainalu Elementary School, from 9:00am-12:00pm. Check out the Facebook event for a list of accepted materials. Please note, we are no longer able to accept batteries, documents for shredding, or household items intended for Goodwill. We hope to see you there!
Interested in waste studies and audits? There are many benefits to students, teachers and families conducting a waste study. If we know exactly how much of and what kinds of materials we are throwing away, students and teachers can design the right plan and action steps for reducing that waste. If you are interested in having a 3Rs School Recycling Program virtual presentation for your class or would like guidance on any waste reduction initiatives, please contact [email protected].
