And the Winner of the Plastic Free Hawaiʻi School Mural Contest is…

June 01, 2020

The winning mural “It's A Honu World” made by students from Kailua Elementary and will receive an Elkay Water Refill Station as their grand prize! Thank you to all the schools who worked hard and participated in this year’s Plastic Free Hawaiʻi School Mural Contest! Each and every one of the school murals submitted were special and unique in their own way. A total of 484 students and 46 adults participated in the contest.

All 9 submissions had a story to tell, beginning with how material was collected and applied, the joyful camaraderie formed amongst the artists and teachers, and most importantly the message that each mural would convey to the public audience. You have all put Artivism into Action! A big mahalo to all participating schools: Haleʻiwa Elementary, Le Jardin Academy, Montessori School of Maui, Kālaheo Elementary School, Keolu Elementary School, Kailua Intermediate School and ʻAikahi Elementary School (our first multi-school entry!), Kailua Elementary School, Kahuku High & Intermediate School and Konawaena Elementary School for harnessing the power of stewardship through laulima and hard work in creating your Plastic Free Hawaiʻi School Mural! You are all winners at Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation!
