Hawaiʻi Environmental Cleanup Coalition (HECC)
April 13, 2017
The Hawaiʻi Environmental Cleanup Coalition (HECC) has been launched thanks to funding from the Harold K. Castle Foundation and Hawaiʻi Community Foundation. The HECC serves as a year-long statewide network of cleanup organizations, schools, community groups, and volunteers.
808 Cleanups will manage HECC’s cleanup data, post all partners’ cleanups on its calendar, and facilitate cleanup collaborations.
The goals of the HECC are to:
- Create an efficient, collaborative cleanup effort throughout Hawaiʻi.
- Create a centralized resource for volunteers to get involved with local beach cleanups.
- Improve Hawaiʻi by removing at least 100,000 lb. of marine debris before Hokuleʻa’s return.
- Create a statewide cleanup map showing removal efforts, marine debris hotspots, upcoming cleanups, and additional relevant information for cleanup site evaluation and selection.
HECC’s Partners Include:
- 808 Cleanups
- Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation
- Surfrider Foundation Hawaiʻi Chapters
- Sustainable Coastlines Hawaiʻi
- Hawaiʻi Wildlife Fund
- Pūlama Lānaʻi
- Kahoʻolawe Island Reserve Commission
