Kōkua Learning Farm Spring Internship Highlight

Our Spring 2023 Youth Internship is off to a great start! As a collective, the youth have begun to plan out their farm plots by weeding, adding amendments to enrich the soil quality, sowing a variety of seeds, as well as harvesting and creating their own farm fresh juices! 

The cohort had the opportunity for a special workshop with Katie Metzger of Hānai Hives (who is hosting a honey tasting event at the Kōkua General Store this Saturday, March 4), where they were able to learn about best practices for raising honey bees and got hands-on experience in the process of extracting and processing honey from hive to bottle! All of the honey harvested went to the yearly ʻĀINA In Schools Valentine's Day Honey fundraiser at participating schools. We are looking forward to more hands-on learning experiences with this cohort as we progress throughout the spring!
