Leilehua Complex Character Bootcamp Addresses Nutrition
March 23, 2018
To help kick off Leilehua Complex Character Boot Camp 2018, Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation staff joined in to share poi smoothies with students learning about building character through physical, social, cognitive and emotional skill-building. Students attended sessions, co-led by Leilehua High School assistants, on topics like nutrition, college-readiness, and emotional health. At the ‘ĀINA In Schools booth, students learned about “close to the source” foods featured on the ʻĀINA Food Guide. They enjoyed a poi smoothie which included “protective” blueberries and local bananas, “energy” poi, “body-building” soy milk, “brainy” coconut milk, and a little taste of “caution” honey. Judging by the purple mustaches and empty cups, it was a huge success!
