Mahalo to our Volunteers & Partners!
July 31, 2019
The Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation board and staff celebrated the hundreds of volunteers who support our programs this school year with a fun filled day at Kualoa Ranch's Hale Nanea and a delicious meal prepared by KHF board member Chef Ed Kenney and Uptown Events. Volunteers, partners, and their families enjoyed an array of activities including planting and tending ʻuala, kalo and native plant gardens, botanical walks, boat rides, Hawaiian games, kuʻi kalo, plastic free games, and making Plastic Free Commitments at the Plastic Free Hawaiʻi Capture Your Commitment Wall. Families were treated to music by KHF co-founder Jack Johnson and fellow KHF board member Kawika Kahiapo, as they picnicked under the monkeypod trees. Ever true to our zero waste mission, volunteers were gifted a Plastic Free Hawaiʻi reusable cup, and all meal waste was sorted, separated, and composted at a local farm.

A special thank you goes to our partners who made the day extra special: Hoʻokuaʻāina farm managers Akamu and Zack for sharing their love and skill of kuʻi with our families, and the Kualoa Ranch Botanical & Education Departments for assistance planning the event and hosting service projects, botanical tours, Hawaiian games, and fishpond boat rides. Mahalo to all our volunteers and partners who help us to deliver and grow our programs!
