Oʻahu Educator ʻĀINA In Schools Curriculum Trainings
October 05, 2017
59 Oʻahu educators representing 32 schools and organizations engaged in ʻĀINA In Schools Curriculum Trainings for Educators. These hands-on trainings utilize the ʻĀINA In Schools Nutrition, Garden, and Compost Curriculum. During the Nutrition training, teachers were introduced to the ʻĀINA Food Guide, modeled Nutrition lessons, and prepared many of the “close to the source” snacks featured in the curriculum including poi smoothie, bird’s nest salad, and yogurt parfait. During the Garden and Compost training, teachers constructed vermicompost systems and bokashi buckets, modeled Garden and Compost lessons, participated in ʻĀINA lesson adaptation activities and assessments, and engaged in discussion on how to develop successful, sustainable, and impactful school garden programs at their schools. Mahalo nui to all Oʻahu educators and partners who helped make this year’s fall curriculum trainings a success.
