Plastic Free Hawaiʻi
May 02, 2019
April was a busy month for Plastic Free Hawaiʻi. We hosted four beach cleanups in partnership with Hawaiian TelCom at Mālaekahana, EF Language School at Pounders, Le Jardin Academy at Kailua and a PreSchool Homeschool group at Barbers Point. In total, we collected nearly 900 pounds of marine debris.
We spread the Plastic Free message while doing community outreach at Hawaiʻi State Art Museum, Lāʻie Elementary, Sunset Beach Elementary, Impact Hub Honolulu, Joint Base Hickam, Honolulu Community College, Hawaiʻi Baptist Academy, SurfJack Hotel, Navy Exchange, Windward Mall, Kāneʻohe Marine Corps Base, and Queen Kapiʻolani Hotel reaching over thousands of community members.
The Plastic Free Hawaiʻi Water Refill Station helped to offset over 10,000 single-use water bottles at April events at the Kaʻaʻawa Fun Run, Waikīkī Aquarium, Sustainable Coastlines Hawaiʻi Earth Day Cleanup, Spam Jam, the Ko Olina Children's Festival, and the Hui Nalu Canoe Regatta. Congratulations to Hui Nalu O Hawaiʻi Canoe Club, one of Oʻahu’s largest canoe clubs that is transitioning their regatta events to be plastic free!
