On Saturday, September 21, Plastic Free Hawaiʻi celebrated International Coastal Cleanup Day at two locations on Oʻahu - James Campbell National Wildlife Refuge in Kahuku and Kalama Beach Park in Kailua. Over 300 volunteers worked tirelessly, contributing significantly to the global beach cleanup movement. Mahalo to Kailua Beach Adventures for co-hosting the Kailua cleanup. Oxybenzone-free, reef-friendly sunscreen was donated by ALL Good. Combined, volunteers at both cleanup sites collected over 4,440lbs of marine debris, microplastic, derelict fishing nets, and land-based trash. 1,600lbs of marine debris was sorted from the Kahuku total and will be recycled by Parley.
