300 volunteers attended our annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service Beach Cleanup on January 16 at the James Campbell National Wildlife Refuge in Kahuku; together, we hauled 7,000 pounds of marine debris off of the beach! Our partner cleanup hosted by Kailua Beach Adventures at Kailua Beach brought in 188 volunteers who cleaned 514 pounds of debris! Many of the volunteers at this cleanup were students from Lanikai Elementary and Kaiser High Schools. Mahalo nui loa to all the volunteers who spent their holiday being of service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Thank you to our partners who made this cleanup possible: U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Sustainable Coastlines Hawaiʻi, Kailua Beach Adventures and Parley for the Oceans. A final thank you to Bee’s Wrap, for donating plastic-free food wraps that are a reusable and sustainable alternative to plastic!
