Schools Celebrate Farm to School with ʻĀINA Family Nights
May 02, 2018
ʻĀINA Family Nights are a great opportunity for a school to highlight their farm to school and health and wellness initiatives. Activities may include school garden tours, healthy and locally sourced snack samples, chef cooking demos, and activity and outreach tables of partner community organizations. ʻĀINA Family Nights in April included Haleʻiwa, Hauʻula, Lāʻie, Mililani Uka, and Sunset Beach Elementary Schools. These schools shared a variety of ways to engage families and the community in the ʻĀINA program at their school with opportunities to learn about where their food comes from and who is growing and cooking it. Highlights included local food trucks, community farmer partners, chef demonstrations, kuʻi ʻai demonstrations, school garden tours, and ʻĀINA Garden and Nutrition Lesson highlights.
