Semester at Sea Field Day on Oʻahu

February 04, 2020

On January 12 we worked with 75 students from the Semester at Sea program and Sustainable Coastlines Hawaiʻi to dive deeper into how we stop pollution at the source. The students and staff were joined by Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation co-founders Kim & Jack Johnson and saw the issue first hand as we cleaned Kahuku Beach, which was covered with mostly microplastic washed up on the shoreline. After lunch at Kahuku Farms, we spent the afternoon at the Hauʻula Civic Center diving deeper and discussing solutions to the global issue, including ways to reduce our plastic imprint. We’re confident that this generation is going to lead us into a plastic free era because with the awareness they are gathering and spreading globally our whole economy is going to change. They will take this experience with them around the world.
