MLK Jr. Day of Service Kahuku Beach Cleanup with SCH

Each year on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, Sustainable Coastlines Hawaiʻi (SCH) and Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation (KHF) have hosted beach cleanups along Hawaiʻi’s coastlines to offer a way for the community to make an impact. This year, the two non-profit organizations came together with the help of 300+ volunteers to clean beaches at Kahuku Golf Course Beach (Keoneʻōʻio) and Mālaekahana, removing millions of fragments of microplastic, as well as five to seven thousand pounds of marine debris. We are so grateful to partner with Sustainable Coastlines Hawaiʻi to create long-lasting impact from keiki to kūpuna.

While beach cleanups are not the ultimate solution, it is a step toward empowering individuals to turn the tap off of single-use plastics and inspire change to a more eco-friendly lifestyle.  SCH and KHF seek to minimize the use of single-use plastic in our daily lives and inspire change for a brighter future. We invite you to learn more about our environmental education programs, continue your zero-waste journey with us at our refill bar in the Kōkua General Store, or learn more about where your food comes from by supporting local farmers at the ʻĀINA Farm Stand. Mahalo to everyone who helps us continue the vital work of inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards.
