The 3Rs School Program
The 3Rs School Program empowers students to engage and educate their school community about the 3Rs (reduce-reuse-recycling). The program supports on-campus recycling efforts by working with schools to strategize collection and redemption options and hosts twice a month 3Rs School Recycling Drives at select 3Rs participating schools across O’ahu, with host schools receiving proceeds from recycled material.

Scrap Metals
YES: All types of scrap metal including bicycles, washers, dryers, fencing, filing cabinets, etc.
NO: Refrigerators, AC units, any compressed gas cylinders, or microwaves
Electronics
YES: All TVs, computers, printers, scanners, monitors, large toner cartridges, laptops, game systems, cameras, cell phones, cables, and cords
NO: Batteries, smart boards, microwaves, fans, vacuums, blenders, large printer & copier machines, medical equipment, or multiple loads (please limit your donations to one small truckload, oneTV and bag of toner cartridges per dropoff)
Confidential Documents
YES: Documents for shredding; Collected in locked bins and shredded off-site (Limit 2 boxes of paper per car)
NO: Newspapers, glossy magazines, other types of paper
Household Goods
YES: New and gently used clothing, shoes, accessories, books, DVDs, CDs, kitchen items, toys, and games
NO: Furniture, mattresses; soiled, moldy, or broken materials; baby & toddler toys/equipment (strollers, car seats, high chairs, etc.)
Donation attendants may decline a donation if, in their judgment, it is not in clean, saleable condition.
Cooking Oil
YES: Used household cooking oil in sealed containers (up to 2 gallons per vehicle)
NO: Motor oil or leaking containers, no restaurant oil
Hi-5 Aluminum Cans, Plastic & Glass Bottles
YES: Only HI-5 containers; remove caps and excess liquid
NO: General recycling including cardboard, #1 & #2 non-beverage plastic containers, glass jars, wine bottles, metal food cans
Proceeds from scrap metals, used household cooking oil, and HI-5 cans and bottles will go directly to the host school. Recycling partners have the discretion to decline materials. If you have questions about if an item is acceptable, please email 3Rs@kokuahawaiifoundation.org.
