Outgrown your Halloween costume? Never fear, join us in the Kōkua General Store all month long to swap Halloween costumes for ʻnew’ preloved costumes! Our swap racks will be out for trading throughout October, from the 1st through the 31st!
Why Costume Swaps?
We host Costume Swaps at the Kōkua General Store to reduce waste in our landfills, extend the life of gently worn clothing items, and provide the community with a fun opportunity for waste reduction. The fashion industry is one of the largest polluters! It is so important to support secondhand in order to reduce waste and lessen the demand for new clothing or costume materials.
When and where do I bring my items to swap?
To participate, bring your clean, gently-used costumes to the Kōkua General Store between October 1st and October 31st during our regular store hours.
Drop Off:
66-249 Kamehameha Hwy, Haleiwa, HI 96712
Monday-Friday, 10am-5pm
Saturday-Sunday, 10am-3pm
Can I bring clothes/school supplies the day of the event?
Yes! This is a month-long swap, so you can bring your preloved costumes.
How many costumes can I swap?
You can bring as many clean, gently-used costumes as you want, which you can then trade for up to 5 costumes on the swap racks.
What kinds of clothing/items can I swap?
We are accepting clean, gently-used family-friendly costumes in good condition of all ages and sizes. We are not accepting unwashed, poor-condition, significantly stained or ripped costumes. We are also not accepting wigs or graphic costumes.
Can I try on costumes at the store?
Yes, we have two fitting rooms available in the store.
What if I don’t bring costumes to swap but I see something I like?
No problem, you will be able to purchase a costume for $10.00 each (Smaller costume accessories for $5.00) with 100% of the proceeds going to Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation.
What happens to the leftover items?
Costumes not swapped will be stored safely at Kōkua General Store for next year’s swap!
