Kōkua General Store Clothing Swap

Join us in the Kōkua General Store on Saturday, August 3rd from 10am-3pm to swap your gently-used clothes/school supplies for some ʻnew’ preloved clothes/school supplies!.

Why Clothing Swaps?

We host Clothing Swaps at the Kōkua General Store to reduce waste in our landfills, extend the life of gently worn clothing items, and provide the community a fun opportunity for waste reduction.  The fashion industry is one of the largest polluters! It is so important to support secondhand in order to reduce waste and lessen the demand for new clothing.

When and where do I bring my items to swap?

To participate, bring your clean, gently-used clothing/school supplies to the Kōkua General Store between Friday, July 26th through Friday, August 2nd during our regular store hours. When dropping off your clothing/school supplies  you will receive a ticket to bring with you the day of the event.

Drop Off:

66-249 Kamehameha Hwy, Haleiwa, HI 96712

Tuesday-Thursday, 11am-5pm

Friday-Saturday, 10am-3pm

Can I bring clothes/school supplies the day of the event?

We kindly ask you to not drop off any clothes/school supplies the day of the event, as setup and organization needs to happen in advance by our staff. Mahalo for your understanding!

How many clothes/school supplies can I swap?

You can bring as many clean, gently-used clothes/school supplies as you want, but you may only swap/take home a maximum of 8 items.

If you donate 8 items or less, that same amount will be reflected on your ticket for how many items you can take (Ex. If you donate 6 items, you will be able to take up to 6 items).

Can I take more than 8 items?

We respectfully ask that you only take a maximum of 8 items or whatever number is listed on your ticket. This is a community event, and we want to ensure that everyone who participates has the opportunity to find something they love.

What kinds of clothing/items can I swap?

We are accepting clean, gently-used clothing in good condition (Ex. Dresses, pants, blouses, shirts, jackets, sweaters, etc.)! We are not accepting unwashed, poor-condition, significantly stained or ripped items. We are also not accepting accessories, shoes, or undergarments. Please do not donate these items to the swap.

For our Back to School section, we are accepting clean, gently-used, good condition school supplies (Ex. backpacks, lunch boxes, binders, unused notebooks, etc.). We are not accepting poor-condition, damaged, significantly stained or broken items.

*A good rule of thumb is to bring items that you’d feel comfortable gifting to a friend!*

What about kids and mens clothing?

Yes! Along with womens clothing, we are accepting kids and mens clothing in good condition.

Can I try on clothes at the swap?

Yes, space is limited, but we have two fitting rooms available in the store where you may try up to 10 items at a time.

What if I don’t bring clothes/school supplies to the swap but I see something I like?

No problem, you will be able to purchase items of clothing from the swap for $10.00 each and school supplies for $5.00. All proceeds will go to Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation.

What happens to the leftover items?

Clothing not swapped will be added to the Kōkua Vintage $5 bin or added to the Kōkua Vintage racks, with 100% of proceeds going to support Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation! Other leftover items will be donated to local schools, charities and nonprofits.
