Mahalo to the 125 students from 8 different schools that are participating in the 2023-24 Plastic Free Hawaiʻi School Mural Contest with this year’s theme: SEA a Solution to Plastic Pollution! We are beyond excited to “SEA” their ideas and creativity come to life!
Now it’s time to cast your vote! Join us on Saturday, April 20 from 10am – 2pm at the Kōkua General Store for the Plastic Free Hawaiʻi School Mural Art Walk in honor of Stacey Garmshausen. View all art pieces in person and create upcycled art with the Center For Marine Debris Research (CMDR) in the Kōkua General Store!
Our honoree, Stacey Garmshausen was an artist, educator, and beloved partner of KHF who sadly passed away earlier this year. Stacey G. made beautiful creations and jewelry out of marine debris as a way to raise awareness about micro plastics. She often led art workshops at the Kōkua General Store and KHF program events on school campuses across Oʻahu. We will also have some of Stacey’s jewelry for sale at the store with proceeds benefiting Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation.
