Plastic Free Hawaiʻi MLK Jr. Day Beach Cleanup

It’s that time of year again! Join us for the annual Plastic Free Hawaiʻi Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Beach Cleanup on Monday, January 19 in Kahuku from 8:30am-1pm. Whether you’re a community member, student, or steward of our coastlines, kickstart the new year with this meaningful opportunity to honor Dr. King’s legacy through service, learning, and collective impact.

The beach cleanup will take place at the Kahuku Golf Course with check-in at 8:30am and cleanup from 9:00-11:00am. Interested in diving deeper into marine debris? Following the beach cleanup head over to the Kahuku Sugar Mill where we’ll gather from 11am-1pm and work alongside Dr. Sarah-Jeanne Royer and Sustainable Coastlines Hawaiʻi to analyze a representative sample– sorting items by size, identifying lettering and markings, and weighing the total materials recovered. While at the Kahuku Sugar Mill, pick up lunch at one of our Plastic Free Hawaiʻi approved restaurants who will be offering discounts. Bring your own reusable containers, utensils and water bottles to help minimize our impact!
