Published May 2020: Esther Chan is a recent 8th grade Punahou School graduate. Esther was inspired by a Plastic Free Hawaiʻi presentation and wanted to use her Girl Scout Silver Award project as an opportunity to educate Oʻahu on the right way to recycle, ensuring that as many materials as possible get recovered. Working with Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation and the C&C of Honolulu Recycling Branch, Esther put together a local recycling guide that focuses on reducing contamination. Putting the wrong items in the recycling bin actually creates more trash and less true recycling. Great job, Esther!
