Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation’s New Home in Haleʻiwa
Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation’s new home is 8 acres of land in the heart of Haleʻiwa on the North Shore of Oʻahu. Our vision is to establish agricultural, educational, and retail activities that benefit the community and promote local food, waste reduction, and environmental stewardship. The property will house the Kōkua Community Center, the Kōkua Learning Farm and three mission-aligned businesses, the Kōkua General Store, Kōkua Vintage and the ʻĀINA Farm Stand. Mahalo to all the volunteers, businesses and community partners who are supporting us in making this vision come to life! Learn more by watching the short 2 minute video below:
Covering 7 acres with a variety of different eco-zones, the Kōkua Learning Farm has plenty of room to showcase several different aspects of our local food system. The Kōkua Learning Farm will include production fields, an orchard, Hawaiian gardens & loʻi, native constructed wetlands, ʻĀINA In Schools demonstration gardens, a compost area and more that will provide educational opportunities for keiki and community. It is our hope that this farm will blossom into an educational and agricultural destination, encouraging learners of all ages to actively support their local food system.
Please check out our Kōkua Learning Farm Conceptual Site Plan Report, prepared by Townscape, for more details. A special MAHALO to the community partners who provided manaʻo in the development of this report.
The Kōkua Backyard Garden will be a welcoming edible and native landscape where the community can come to learn and draw inspiration to cultivate household food production and composting skills. This space was created in partnership by WATG as part of their Deserving Designs Award!
The Kōkua Community Center will be a gathering place for the community to learn, share skills, stories and ideas, through workshops, classes and other learning opportunities!
Our vision for the Kōkua General Store is to create a bulk, refill, and low-waste lifestyle product store. This space will provide the community the tools they need to reduce waste in their lives.
At the ʻĀINA Farm Stand we will share the bounty of local food and agriculture producers! The ʻĀINA Farm Stand will provide farm-fresh produce from the Kōkua Learning Farm and other local farmers and producers, as well as value-added products, locally grown flowers and lei. The stand will also serve as a CSA (community supported agriculture) and CSF (community supported fisheries) pick up location.
Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation staff support offices will also be on property to help facilitate all programs and act as a gathering place for KHF staff, board, and volunteers!
