We’re excited to launch this year’s Plastic Free Hawaiʻi’s School Mural Contest with the theme “With Our Own Two Hands” — drawing inspiration from the song by KHF’s co-founder, Jack Johnson — to encourage individual actions that will then lead to great change. K–12 students across Hawaiʻi are invited to create ARTivism: art that sparks activism. Collect materials to upcycle and design a mural that inspires solutions to plastic pollution in our communities and oceans!
Who can participate: Students, classes, clubs, or school groups (K–12). Entries must be submitted by a teacher or parent.
Materials: Use found or reused items such as marine debris, plastic caps, or other single-use plastics collected from cleanups or recycling drives. Share where your materials came from in your entry form!
Criteria: Murals will be judged on use of found materials, creativity, visual impact, and connection to the theme.
Deadline: All entries due January 29, 2027.
